Accutane Test Calc

Accutane, the brand name for isotretinoin, is a potent medication primarily used to treat severe acne, specifically nodular acne that has not responded to other treatments. It is a derivative of vitamin A and falls under a class of drugs known as retinoids. Accutane works by reducing the amount of oil released by oil glands in the skin, helping renew skin more quickly.

While highly effective, Accutane carries the risk of serious side effects. It is known to cause severe birth defects if taken during pregnancy, so strict measures (like pregnancy tests and use of birth control) must be taken to prevent pregnancy during treatment. Other possible side effects include dry skin and lips, nosebleeds, changes in mood or behavior, and elevated blood levels of triglycerides and liver enzymes.

Due to its potential side effects, isotretinoin is usually prescribed as a last resort and must be administered under close supervision by a healthcare provider familiar with its use. It is available only under a special program approved by the Food and Drug Administration called iPLEDGE, which ensures that patients meet certain criteria and follow specific safety protocols while taking the medication.
